Refugee & Humanitarian

Every year, millions of people are forced to flee their homes to escape persecution, war or serious human rights abuses. Often these people can never return home.

Private sponsorship of the refugees program helps thousands of refugees every year. You or your group can sponsor refugees from abroad who qualify to come to Canada. As a sponsor, you provide financial and emotional support to sponsors for the duration of the sponsorship. This includes help with housing, clothing, and food. Most sponsorships last for one year, but some refugees may be eligible for assistance of up to three years from their sponsors.

Refugees must qualify for entry under Canadian laws and must pass medical and safety checks before arriving in Canada.

Demanding for Asylum

Any person who presents himself to a Canadian entry port, Citizenship Canada (IRCC), Immigration, Refugee or Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) can claim asylum. The IRCC or CBSA then determines the person's eligibility to claim asylum.

In addition to providing evidence of persecution from their country of origin, these individuals must undergo biographical, criminality, security and biometric investigations before being granted Canadian refugee status.
